Ione Bredahl, age 85, Wheaton, MN, formerly of Kensal, ND, died peacefully on Wednesday, Dec 2, 2015, at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous encounter with brain cancer.
Ione was born May 25, 1930, in Darling Township, MN, the oldest daughter of William and Clara Regnell in a family of eight children. After graduation from Little Falls High School in 1949, she moved to Kensal to begin her lifelong passion of caring for others. She married Roderick John Mucha on February 18, 1950, during a blizzard, which prevented the newlyweds from attending their own wedding reception in Melville, ND that evening. The couple farmed east of Kensal and was blessed with two sons and six daughters before Rod’s sudden death on September 18, 1961. Ione’s strong faith and commitment to support and raise her family were inspirational to those who knew her. She worked at Harold’s Department Store, Kensal Public School as a cook, and served coffee to many at the Kensal Community Café to supplement the farming income.
On Dec 26, 1983, Ione married Gordon Bredahl who also farmed in Kensal. With this marriage came four stepsons, their wives, and more grandchildren to enjoy and love. Ione was able to travel and enjoy winters in Arizona during these years with Gordon. Her strong belief in caring for those we love gave her the strength to care for Gordon when his health declined. He passed away on Dec 22, 2003.
Ione was a member of St John’s Catholic Church, Kensal, Ave Maria Catholic Church, Wheaton, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Traverse County American Cancer Society.
Ione loved to share her handcrafted afghans, embroidered dish towels, and warm apple turnovers. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. She remembered all the events of her past and continued to share her stories with her family as all were gathered in the final weeks of her life. Her family and friends will miss her infectious laughter and the love she so freely shared.
Ione is survived by sons Richard Mucha, Devils Lake, ND, Leon (Debra) Mucha, Buffalo City, WI, and daughters Diane Mucha, Eagle River, AK, Deborah Mucha, Anchorage, AK, Dora (John) Davenport, Atwood, KS, Darlene (Steven) Turner, Fort Dodge, IA, and Darlis (Myron) Morth, Wheaton, MN. She is also survived by stepsons Dennis (Jill) Bredahl, Spiritwood, ND, Dale (Vonda) Bredahl, Kensal, James (Jodi) Bredahl, Jamestown, ND, and Chris (Pam) Bredahl, Kensal. She was loved by 14 grandchildren and 12 step-grandchildren. She was blessed with 7 greatgrandchildren and 16 step –greatgrandchildren.
She is also survived by her sister Elaine (Edward) Opatz, Sartell, MN, sister-in-law Proxie Dick, Jamestown, ND, and brother-in-law Ken Norton, Little Falls, MN, along with a large circle of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, daughter Donna Mucha, granddaughter Anita Turner, brothers Robert, Everett, Lyle, and Arnold Regnell, sisters Marlys (Mucha) Peil and Ruth Norton.
