Herbert J. Kitzman, 93, Jamestown, ND died Friday, December 13, 2013 at Eventide at Hi-Acres in Jamestown.

Herbert John Kitzman was born May 17, 1920, south of Manfred, ND, on the John Olschlager farm known as the Neuman Estates, the son of John and Adolfine (Ziebart) Kitzman. At the age of six, the family moved to Addison, IL where he attended school until 8th grade. He graduated from St. Paul's Lutheran School in Addison, IL. At the age of 19, he moved back to Fessenden and started farming in the Fessenden area.

Herb married Hilda Neuman on November 26, 1944 at Sykeston, ND. Their son, Robert, was born in 1952. They continued to farm in Oshkosh Township and he worked for Great Plains in Fessenden from 1966 to 1976. He was supervisor and assessor for Wells County for many years. In 1976 they moved to Jamestown where he worked at Western Gear and retired in 1984. They continued to make their home in Jamestown. Robert passed away in 1986 and Hilda passed away on July 21, 1996.

Herb was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown, lifetime member of Billings County Historical Society of Medora, Chamber of Commerce-Medora, the National Buffalo Museum of Jamestown, Wells County Historical Society, Wells County Fair Association in Fessenden, lifetime member of Dakota Boys Ranch, and was a member of the Silver Hair Assembly representing Stutsman County.

Herb will be missed by special friends, Dick and Judy Dauer and family. He also had one very special little friend, Evan Hoffman.

He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Robert; parents; four brothers, Lender, Ervin, Harold and Helmuth; and two sister, Locialle Lee and Leila Bauman.
