Helen Johnson

Helen Johnson, 87, of Jamestown, ND, passed away Sunday evening, September 27, 2026, at Eventide Care Center in Jamestown, surrounded by family.

Helen was born January 15, 1939, in Wimbledon, ND, the daughter of John and Mary (Marsolek) Miemietz. She grew up and attended school in Courtney, ND. Helen began working at a young age and held numerous jobs, including Red Owl, Dime Store, Jamestown Newspaper, Jamestown College food services, and the North Dakota State Hospital.

On June 2, 1958, Helen married the love of her life, Maurice “Mitch” Johnson. Helen and Mitch settled down in a house on the Johnson family farm, where they began their family. Helen’s greatest joy was being a mother to her five children, grandma to her nine grandchildren, and great-grandma to her eleven great-grandchildren.

Helen loved gathering her family at her home to host Thanksgiving and Christmas. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, crocheting, and gardening. She loved cooking and baking and was known for her famous caramel rolls, bread, and buns.

Helen lived a full life and shared her zest for life with everyone who knew her. Her laugh and spirited personality brought smiles and joy to everyone around her. She loved to tear up the dance floor, tickle the keys of her accordion, and could occasionally pull a fun-loving prank on those that she loved. As a proud member of the North Dakota Game and Fish Whopper Club, Helen enjoyed the outdoors and loved her beautiful home on Spiritwood Lake.

As a longtime member of St. James Basilica in Jamestown, Helen was a devoted Catholic who loved her God and prayed her rosary daily.

Helen will be lovingly remembered by her surviving children Laurel “Lori” Anderson (Jamestown, ND), Patsy (Randy) Kramer (Buchanan, ND), Owen (Nancy) Johnson (Barneveld, WI), and Helen LaRae (Jim) Gavic (Deforest, WI), and her grandchildren Jamie Anderson, Jason (Kristi) Anderson, Jessica Anderson, Tyson (Missy) Kramer, Kassity (Jake) Senf, Whitney (John) Healy, Emily Gavic, Hanna (Jacob) Weber; daughter- in-law Sarah Kramer; her great grandkids, nieces Debbie Compsom and Joanie Bjur along with numerous other loving relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Mitch Johnson; her sons, Jonathan Paul (infant) and Maurice “Maury” Johnson; her grandson, Jarvis Kramer; her parents, John and Mary Miemietz; and her brothers, Ben and John Miemietz.

A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Eddy Funeral Home, 621 1st Avenue S, Jamestown.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 AM Saturday, October 3, 2026, at St. James Basilica, 622 1st Avenue S, Jamestown, ND, with Father Timothy Kraemer officiating.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown, ND, with luncheon to follow at the church.
