Helen H. Geinert, 101, passed away in her sleep early Sunday morning, September 7, 2025 at her home in Nortonville, ND.

Helen Hedwig Pratschner was born April 15, 1924, on a farm near Jud, ND. She attended grade school at Raney #1 and graduated from Jud High School in 1940. Helen attended Ellendale Normal & Industrial School where she was Homecoming Queen in October 1941. At college she was involved in many activities such as President of the Newman Club, member of student council, Women’s Athletic Association, the Tumbling Team, and the student newspaper. Helen earned her tuition by working for the commercial instructor and her room & board by cleaning the second floor of the dorm. In May 1942, she graduated with a Standard Teaching Certificate and taught two years in Jud, then one year at Mikkleson country school. Helen always had a close association with the Manor of St. Joseph, Edgeley. The summer before going to college, she stayed with the Sisters and taught pre-school religion class. She also worked with Sister Mary Michael in the craft department and was invited to work on the Sister’s Fall Bazaar.

On June 6th, 1944, she married to Roy Geinert by Father R.V. Long at Transfiguration Church, Edgeley. They farmed in Mikkelson Township until 1981 when they moved into Nortonville, ND. Helen was very active in both community and church. She taught 7th & 8th grade religion for many years, was a member of Confraternity of Christian Mothers at Holy Spirit Church in Nortonville, a bible study group in Jamestown, and an Oblate of St. Benedict with the Benedictine Sisters of Annunciation Monastery in Bismarck, ND.

Helen’s hobbies included making thousands of blankets and rosaries for the missions.

She is survived by her children, Julie (Ty) Albertson, Minot, ND, Michael (Jeannie) Geinert, Bismarck, ND, Jeffrey (Verla) Geinert, Minot, Jean (Bill) Knutson, Forest Grove, OR, Timothy (Joanne) Geinert, Nortonville, Barb (Gene) Batson, Umatilla, FL, and Stephanie (Jeff) Berning, Rochester, MN; 28 grandchildren; and 45 great-grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy in 1996; daughters, Marcene Klosterman in 1997 and Charlotte Morgan in 2019; sister, Rosalia; and brothers, Al, John, Frank, Joseph, Bernard, Clarence, Dennis, and Leo

Rosary – 7:00 p.m., Monday, September 15, 2025 with a Prayer Service to follow at 7:30 p.m. at the Church of the Transfiguration, Edgeley, ND.

Mass of Christian Burial – 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at the Church of the Transfiguration, with Father Jake Miller, celebrant.

Visitation – One hour before each service at the church.

Burial – Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Edgeley, with a reception to follow.
