Listen to Obituary

Harry L. Wanner, age 70, Tappen, ND was a lifelong rancher and dedicated steward of the land, passed away on April 19, 2026, at the Jamestown Regional Medical Center, Jamestown, ND.

Born on August 21, 1955, in Gackle, ND, to August and Ellena Wanner, Harry was raised with a tireless work ethic and a quiet, steady strength. His life was defined by the rhythm of the seasons and the deep-rooted traditions of the North Dakota plains. Alongside his brother Roy, Harry spent decades building a ranching legacy in Tappen. He was a fixture of the community-widely respected for his keen eye for cattle and his skill in the hayfields under the vast prairie sky. Whether navigating the brutal challenges of a North Dakota winter or making hay in the peak summer, Harry’s commitment to his land and his livestock remained unwavering.

Beyond the ranch, Harry had a passion for guns and ammo. He was a knowledgeable enthusiast who appreciated the craftsmanship of a well-made firearm and spent much of his downtime studying and testing ballistics.

For those that talked on the phone with him he would often share that he was convinced that the weatherman was directing snow, bad weather and unnecessary precipitation directly over the ranch.

While known for his frugality, his kindness was never far from the surface. He was a man who understood the value of a dollar, yet he never hesitated to set that aside for a creature in need; he was the kind of person who would ensure even a sick cat received the best care at the vet.

Harry is survived by his sisters, Barbara Moser, Eldridge, ND, Betty (Roger) Ueke, Show Low, AZ, and June (Randy) Kramlich, Bismarck, ND; his brothers, Rod (Lori) Wanner, Bismarck, ND and Roy Wanner, Tappen, ND; his very good friend, Mary Dickson; and a large extended family of relatives who will carry on the stories of his life on the ranch. He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Ellena; his brother-in-law, Reuben Moser; and his niece, Janelle Nastrom.

Harry’s and the family’s wish was to have him cremated. No formal services are planned, but a private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Eddy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
