Harry Becker

Harry Becker, 91, Jamestown, North Dakota died Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Jamestown Hospital.

Mr. Becker was born February 24, 1917 at Cleveland, ND, the son of Fred and Kathryn (Beck) Becker. He attended school at Cleveland, and in his third year in high school he dropped out to go to work for the Northern Pacific Railroad in the Jamestown area and on ranches in Hardin, MT in the 1930's.

Harry married Eva Ruth Trautmann on January 30, 1942 in Miles City, Montana. She was the daughter of Peter and Christina Trautmann of Medina, ND.

On April 14th, 1942, Harry was sworn into the United States Army at Bismarck, ND, serving stateside at Fort Demoines, Iowa; Camp Wallace, Texas; 202 NDCA Bremerton, WA; and Camp Vandorn, MI. In 1944 he was shipped out of New York City with the 63rd Infantry Division. He landed in southern France and served as a Combat Infantryman in France and Germany. He was honorably discharged on February 18, 1946 at Camp McCoy, WI. After his discharge he worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad for a short time. He then went to work for the North Dakota Mill and Elevator in Grand Forks, ND, as a Territory Salesman from 1947 to 1968. He later worked for Northland Chemical Company from 1968 to 1971 and S & S Wholesale Dist. Inc. from 1971 to 1982. From 1976 to 1982 he was Office Manager for S & S Wholesale Dist, retiring on September 1, 1982.

Harry was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church; the Jamestown VFW; American Legion; and the Jamestown Eagles. He loved watching sports and fishing.

Harry is survived by two sisters, Hilda Armstrong, of Portland, OR and Agnes Otto, of Albany, OR and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva; parents; one sister; and one brother.

Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Monday, October 20, 2008 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Jamestown, ND with Rev. Gary Ball-Kilbourne officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday, October 19, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Sunday, October 19, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota.

In lieu of flowers, memorial preferred to the American Legion, VFW, or Jamestown Hospital.
