Harley Reich, 71, Cleveland, North Dakota died Monday, September 26, 2005 at Central Dakota Village in Jamestown, ND.
Mr. Reich was born April 17, 1934 in Fargo, ND the son of Jacob and Marie (Ruff) Reich. He grew up in the Medina area where he received his grade school education. In 1990 he completed his GED and received his high school diploma. The family moved to Cleveland in 1949. He began working at the Cleveland Farmers Elevator in 1953, where he continued employment until 1979. He served 2 years in the Army from October 1957 to October 1959, then returning to his job at the elevator. He began farming in the early 60's and continued to farm until 1999, but he remained active in various farm activities.
Harley and Carol DeKrey Unruh were married April 22, 1966 at the DeKrey family home near Pettibone. Harley became substitute mail carrier for the Cleveland area in 1982, which he continued until October of 2004 - retiring because of ill health.
Harley was a former board member of Prairie Coop Elevator in Cleveland. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Cleveland. He was a lifetime member of Elks 995 in Jamestown and also a member of the American Legion in Gackle.
Farming and family were the most important part of Harley's life.
Harley is survived by his wife, Carol, Cleveland, one daughter, Pamela (Kris) Bettenhausen, West Fargo, ND, two sons, Gregory (Helen) Unruh, Boise, ID and Michael (Cherish) Reich, Fargo, ND, six grandchildren, Brittani, Landon, Jennifer, Kyle, Korwynn and Jacob, his mother, Marie Reich, Jamestown, two brothers, Vernon (Norma Jean) Reich, Jamestown and Elmer (Linda) Reich, Grants Pass, OR and two sisters, Adeline (Jim) Buchanan, McAllen, TX and Naomi Sweningson, Bismarck, ND.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jacob and two sisters, Lorraine Gross and Inez Krause.
Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Friday, September 30, 2005 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Jamestown, ND with Chaplain David Fisher officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, September 29, 2005 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown.
Prayer Service: 8:00 PM, Thursday, September 29, 2005 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel in Jamestown.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota.
