Gust Deutscher

Gust F. Deutscher, 97, Medina, North Dakota, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2004 at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown, North Dakota.

Gust was born December 12, 1906 at the family homestead located in southern Bloomenfield Township of Stutsman County, North Dakota. His parents were Fred and Elizabeth (Kraft) Deutscher.

He started his first year of school in Germania Township and was able to continue his education through the sixth grade. After that he was needed at home to help with the family farm work. He was confirmed in 1922.

He married Pauline Ross on November 15, 1928 in Medina. They recently celebrated their 76th wedding anniversary together. They farmed with his parents for 2 1/2 years, after which they moved to a farmstead, located about 10 1/2 miles south of Medina, where they farmed for 9 years. In 1940 they moved to a farm 4 miles south of Medina and continued to farm there until their retirement.

Gust was a member of Zion United Church of Christ having served on the church board a number of times. He worked parttime for Jamestown Livestock for 9 years. He served on the Bloomenfield Township and Chicago Township Boards for many years. He was also elected to the Medina Public School Board, putting in 18 years of service. In the late 1960's Gust worked with DeVries Construction of Valley City and Traiser Electric of Jamestown on the Medina High School addition. He retired from farming in 1980 and moved into Medina with his wife, which is still their current residence. He enjoyed visiting with his friends at the café.

Gust is survived his wife, Pauline and one son, David V. (Linda) Deutscher and one granddaughter, Dede, all of Medina.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Monday, December 6, 2004 at the Zion United Church of Christ in Medina, ND with Pastor Karl Limvere officiating.

Visitation: 2:00 to 8:00 PM, Sunday, December 5, 2004 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Sunday, December 5, 2004 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.

Burial: Medina Cemetery, Medina, North Dakota.
