Gottlieb Knoblich

Gottlieb Knoblich, 92, died Thursday, November 29, 2007 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home in Jamestown.

Gottlieb was born May 26, 1915 southeast of Lehr, ND, the son of Jacob and Magdalena (Maier) Knoblich. He graduated from high school in Ashley, ND and received his Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Elementary education and administration at the State Normal Industrial College, Ellendale, ND. He also did graduate work a the University of North Dakota. He was an educator for 39 years in Bisbee, York, and Lakota, ND. Gottlieb married Faye (Whitman) DeKrey on March 3, 1984 in Jamestown.

While a full time teacher at York, he also coached basketball and won championship three years in succession. He was also track coach and won lst place trophy. He also was City Clerk for 12 years while teaching at York, which became the Leeds school district through reorganization in 1957.

In 1965 he moved to take a teaching position at Lakota, teaching math and science in the Junior High for twelve years. He became a Lion's member at Lakota and was secretary-treasurer for ten consecutive years with a ten year perfect attendance. He also won the Membership Development Award while he was Zone Chairman in North Dakota District 5 NE.

He organized the first Towner County Education Association, an affiliate of North Dakota Education Association and was its President for two years.

While teaching at Johnson School in Bisbee District he was coaching students from first through eighth grade for play days. They won many first place trophies as well as a softball tournament first place trophy.

His summer avocations were interior and exterior painter for 36 years, with sometimes as high as four extra helpers, and golf during his retirement.

Gottlieb is survived by his wife, Faye, Jamestown; one daughter, Kay (George) Shriver, Prescott, AZ; two grandsons; and one brother, Jerome (Joanne) Knoblich, Park Rapids, MN.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Henriette DeKrey Knoblich; parents; and numerous brothers and sisters.

Funeral Service: 2:00PM, Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church, Jamestown, with Rev. Kenrad Petersen officiating.

Visitation: 1:00PM to 8:00PM, Monday, December 4, 2007 at the Eddy Funeral Home.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.
