Gordon Colburn

Gordon Colburn, 96, of Jamestown, ND, formerly of Cottonwood, MN, died Thursday, December 17, 2012 at Eventide at Hi-Acres, Jamestown.

Gordon "Gordy" Colburn was born in June 22, 1916, in Tracy, MN to Lizzie and Al. He was raised in Garvin, MN, and grew up enjoying the outdoors, including trapping, fishing, and hunting. On August 2, 1941, he married Katherine Anderson, and they lived in Fulda, MN, where he worked as a butcher. He was drafted into the Army in June of 1942, and was sent overseas to serve with a butchering and refrigeration unit in Northern Africa, Italy, and France, receiving an honorable discharge in November, 1945. They moved to Cottonwood, MN, where Gordy ran the meat market and locker plant. He later worked with the local insurance company and then followed up his employment as a rural mail carrier. Following retirement, he was a snow bird to Mesa, AZ, and after Kay passed, he became a dance host on cruise ships, completing 48 cruises. Gordon was an avid volunteer for many different groups throughout his life. He had a great sense of humor, was adventurous, ready to try new things, and loved spending time with his grandchildren. The last 7 years of his life, he resided at Hi Acres Manor in Jamestown, ND, near his daughter. Gordon is survived by his daughter, Jeannine, Jamestown, ND; his son, Ted (wife Naomi), Marana, AZ; his grandson, Gregg of Edina, MN(wife Jen, children Grace and Grant); and his granddaughter, Jill of Eau Claire, WI (husband Mark, children Carter and Kendra); special nieces Jan Kockelman and Dee Kerkvliet; and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kay; brothers, Alfie, Art, Ernie, Leslie, Palmer (Charlie); half-brother, Lucius.


Memorial Service:
1:30 p.m., Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Christ Lutheran Church, Cottonwood, MN.

Interment: Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Cottonwood, MN(at a later date)
