Gladys Ukestad

Gladys Ione (Lee) Ukestad, 96, passed away on Monday, May 28th 2018.

Gladys is survived by one son, Eldon (Jeannie) Ukestad; grandson Jeffrey (Jean) Ukestad; granddaughters Tera Ukestad and Brittany (Tyler) Campbell; one great-grandson, Gabe; and four great-granddaughters: Emily, Gwen, Greta and Enissa, all from the Twin Cities. In North Dakota she leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews who supported and cared for her.

She was preceded in death by her husband Manroy, parents Bert O. and Thilda (Dahl) Lee, brothers Leonard and Henry (Hank), and sisters Mildred Tvedt and Doris Rode.

Gladys was born on March 18, 1922, on a farm in rural Manns Township, North Dakota. She was the fourth child born to Bert and Thilda. Gladys married Manroy Ukestad from Ypsilanti, ND on October 5, 1943. After spending their first five years of marriage in Ypsi, they moved to the Lee family farm with Bert and Hank.

Farm life was hard work but she lived it to the fullest! She raised chickens, milked cows, cultivated corn, dug summer fallow, made hay and if she wasn't working in the field alongside her husband and brother she would bring lunch and coffee to them, all the while keeping a spotless house and having three meals on the table.

Baking, cooking, quilting, ironing, gardening, and taking care of her large yard kept her very busy. However, she was never too busy to stop, put on a pot of coffee and serve a choice of cookies, bars or cake and visit with family, her many friends or the neighbors that stopped by.

She was a member of Montpelier Lutheran Church, serving as the financial treasurer for twenty-seven years, a member of Ruth Circle, and a member of the local Homemaker’s Club.

Glady was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.

Funeral service : 4:00 PM, Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Good Shepherd Chapel, Ave Maria Village, Jamestown, ND with Deacon Ken Votava, officiating.

No visitation is scheduled.

Burial : James Valley Cemetery, Ypsilanti, ND
