Gertrude Officer, 99, Nortonville, ND, died Monday, January 23, 2006 at Hi-Acre Manor, Jamestown, ND.
Gertrude Irene Bennett was born September 30, 1906 at Jud, ND, the first baby ever to be born in Jud, the daughter of O. Ralph and Florence (Fay) Bennett. She was raised and attended school in Jud, graduating from Jud High School in 1925. She worked at the Jud Post Office and at Wilke-Boardman Groceries & Meats in Diesem, ND. On August 30, 1934, she married Harold Officer at Jud, ND. They moved to Franklin, ND in 1935, where Harold managed the Cargill Elevator. In 1939, they moved to Nortonville, ND where Harold managed the elevator and was the Station Master for the Midland Continental Railroad and Gertrude managed the railroad depot. They retired in 1970 and continued to live in Nortonville. Harold died on February 25, 1996. In January of 2001, Gertrude entered Hi-Acre Manor of Jamestown, ND.
Gertrude was a member of Nortonville Methodist Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, tatting and other crafts.
Survivors include a daughter Shirley Lindgren, Nortonville, ND; 2 sons: Ralph (Syrie) Officer, Coon Rapids, MN; James (Esther) Officer, Gwinner, ND; a daughter-in-law, Diane Officer Galloway, Omaha, NE; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a sister, Helen Marchus, Walnut Creek, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Gordon, and 3 brothers.
