Floyd Maisel "Dutch" Kramer, 86, died Sunday, August 15th at the ND Veterans Home in Lisbon, N.D.
He was born May 20th, 1924 on the family farm in Dickey to Curt and Emma (Maisel) Kramer.
He attended school in Dickey and graduated from Dickey High School on May 29th, 1942. He joined the Army in Feb 1945 and served in the Asiatic-Pacific theatre, the Phillipines and Korea. He was honorably discharged in Aug 1946 serving 18 months and held the rank of First Sargent. He received the Asiatic Pacific Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Dutch married Phoebe Bredell Oct 3, 1944 and they had two daughters. After a divorce, he married Leona Sveinson and they had two sons.
He worked in the Dickey area most of his life. He also spent time working in Arizona. He worked for Bob Martin in the Dickey Elevator and for Clayton Waldie and Harry Meiklejohn as a hired man. He held many odd jobs including hauling cattle and digging graves. He went south for many years Custom Combining with Bernard and Lawrence Goehring and Harold Klug. In the early 1960's, he was the Dickey Town Marshall. He worked at Haybuster in Jamestown in the late 60's and early 70's. He retired in 2003.
He was an avid rodeo fan and contestant. He competed in bull and saddle bronc riding. He was also part of a rodeo clown act.
In retirement he enjoyed tinkering in his shop, woodworking, dealing in scrap metal and playing cards with his friends.
He is survived by two daughters: Linda Kiser, Park Forest, Il, Susan (Lawrence) Goehring, Dickey, ND, one son, Steve (Cindy) Kramer, Dickey, ND, six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, Richard (Sharon) Kiser and sons Robert, Hunter and Richard, Douglas Kiser, Christine (Paul) Juhasz and sons PJ and Emerson, Quinton (Vidette) Kramer and children Myrdette and twins Jamin and Jamison, Holly Kramer (Corey) and sons Carter, Hayden and Nolan, Tony Kramer and friend Nicole.
His siblings include six brothers and three sisters: Robert Kramer, Seattle, WA, Jim Kramer, Kirkland, WA, Elton (Lorraine) Kramer, Jamestown, ND, Cecil Kramer, Fargo, ND, Marion Peterson, Bremerton, WA, Elaine Millspaugh, Jamestown, ND, Loren (Leone) Kramer, Milnor, ND, Darrell (Phyllis) Kramer, Dickey, ND, Ruth (Jim) Lee, Elko, NV, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, two brothers, Harold and Maynard and a son, Ross.
Memorials may be sent to the Red River Valley Hospice or charity of the donor's choice.
Memorial Service: 10:30AM, Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.
Visitation: One hour before the service at the funeral chapel.
Burial: 2:00PM, Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
