Fergus L. McCleary, 78, of Dickey, ND, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2016 at Scottsdale Nursing & Rehab, Scottsdale, AZ.

Fergus Lowell McCleary was born on September 9, 1937, in Marion, ND, the son of Ferd and Pearl Marie McCleary. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Dickey High School in 1954. Fergus enlisted with the US Army and served in Korea. He was discharged after 3 years of service and married Jeanette in 1957. They lived in Chicago, IL, where they began their family and David and Sharon were born. Fergus was a steel worker for a few years and the family moved back to North Dakota to begin farming north of Dickey. A daughter, Jill, was born and the family continued to farm in the Dickey area for many years. Fergus was a hard worker making farming a family affair, but made time to go fishing and enjoyed spending time with his grandsons.

Fergus served on the Marion School Board, and was a member of the Eagle’s Club in Valley City and the United Methodist Church in Dickey.

Fergus is survived by his wife, Jeanette; son, David (Becky) McCleary; daughter, Sharon (Michael) DeRosa and Jill (Lyle) Bayley; three grandsons, Joshua and Levi McCleary and Logan Bayley; and three sisters, Carol Bender, Vonni (Chuck) Haynes, and Frances (Floyd) Roehrich.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Travis McCleary; three brothers, Robert, Harley, and Harold; and sister, Mae Frye.

Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 15, 2016 at United Methodist Church, Dickey, ND.

Visitation: 1:00 p.m., to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Prayer Service : 5:00 p.m., Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Interment: Dickey Cemetery, Dickey.
