Evelyn E. Sandness, 96, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home in Jamestown.
Evelyn Edith Dahl was born January 28, 1913 in Ypsilanti, ND, the daughter of Peder and Sigrid (Lee) Dahl. She grew up in the Ypsilanti area and graduated from Ypsilanti High School. Evelyn married Elmer Sandness on November 2, 1939 at the farm near Litchville. They farmed and raised cattle in the Litchville area. She was a homemaker for many years, raising a family. They moved to Jamestown, where she worked as a certified nursing assistant at the North Dakota State Hospital. Evelyn entered Hi-Acres Manor in 2004. Elmer died June 10, 2008.
Evelyn was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Litchville; the Ladies Aid and the V.F.W. Auxillary. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening and flowers; reading; quilting; spending time with her friends and caregivers; and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Evelyn was a warm and caring person and always had a smile for those around her.
Evelyn is survived by one son, Warren Sandness, Minot, ND; two daughters, Eunice Mesec, Littleton, CO, and Connie (Dan) Jeske, Jamestown; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Sandness, Jamestown; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Richard; an infant daughter; her parents; three sisters, Pearl Struble, Mildred Wolfensberger and Eleanor Monson; and two brothers, Lawrence and Ray Dahl.
Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with Pastor Bryce Tahran officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, February 6, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial in the spring: Litchville Cemetery, Litchville, ND.
