Everett James Murch, 85, Jamestown, North Dakota died Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at his home, under the care of hospice.
Everett was born May 30, 1926 in Arthur, ND, the son of Sidney J. and Alice A. (Keller) Murch. The family farmed near Arthur until 1939 when they moved to a farm in Bloom Township, north of Jamestown. In 1947 they moved to a farm south of Jamestown in Woodbury Township. Everett farmed with his father. In 1952 he married Marcella Baker. They continued to farm and operated a dairy for many years. During that time he was a member of the MN Milk Producers Assn. and helped to organize the ND Milk Producers Assn. He received a lifetime achievement award from that association in 1997.
He became a child of God through baptism as an infant. He was confirmed in the Christian faith at St. John's Lutheran Church in 1940. He later became a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, where he was an active member of the church council for many years.
He attended Rose Valley School in Arthur and Jamestown High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944. He served in the Pacific Theater until he was discharged on August 11, 1946.
Everett is survived by his wife, Marcella, Jamestown; three sons: Steven (Peggy) Murch, Laurel, MT, Lee (Jane) Murch and Lyndon Murch, both of Jamestown; one daughter, Alice Laber, Jamestown; 9 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five sisters, June Winings, Detroit Lakes, MN, Joyce Telken, Starke, FL, Yvonne Sevik, Grand Junction, CO, Cecelia (Bernard) Sundeen, Cleveland, ND and Phyllis (Edward) Hodgson, Rooseveldt, MN; step-sister, Ardell Goff, Jamestown; step-brother, DuWayne (JoAnn) Perry, Bumpass, VA; sister-in-law, Betty Murch, Grand Junction, CO; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Edna; two brothers, Sidney and Ernie; two sisters, Esther Dean and Betty Lou; step-sister, Annabelle Church; brothers-in-law, Albert Winings, Earl Sevik, Elder \""Sonny\"" Telken and special friends, Carl Hillstrom and Roy and Eldon Baker.
