JAMESTOWN, North Dakota 58401
Evelyn Elaine Kutz, 90, Jamestown, ND, passed away early Friday Morning November 15th at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Evelyn was born March 20th, 1929 on a farm NW of Woodworth to Albert and Wanda Schulz. Evelyn received her education in a rural country school, completing the 8th grade. Evelyn then stayed home to work on the farm and travel with her father’s grain threshing crew as the cook. Evelyn met Lyle Kutz at a dance at Rainbow Gardens in 1948 in Carrington, ND and they were married August 15th, 1950 in Sykeston, ND. They purchased their first farm SW of Sykeston, raising grain, beef and dairy cattle but found time to add three new members to the family, Gary, Gayle and Glen.
In 1957, the family moved to a farm eight miles SW of Carrington, continuing grain farming, beef and dairy, and here three more members were added to the family, Gregg, Gavin & Gloriann. Evelyn also would raise 500 chickens yearly to supplement the family income. In 1967, the family moved to a farm SW of Medina, continuing farming and dairy. Here the baby of the family was born, Gina. Mom told us she was glad they stopped moving, as the best things they were growing on these farms was the family. They continued to farm until 1986, when they moved to Jamestown. Evelyn had become employed at Hi Acres Nursing Center in 1985 until 2002, retiring after 17 years. Evelyn loved gardening and flowers, growing and canning many vegetables. Her flower gardens were the envy of us all.
Evelyn had tireless energy, a beautiful giving spirit, was always first to donate or volunteer to help others. As a young girl, she loved to saddle up and ride horses, and gallop freely in the wind. Evelyn never failed to be uplifting and her smile will never be forgotten. Her baked goods and delicious meals were beyond compare. If Evelyn wasn’t bustling around, she was finally finding time to sit down and read a book. She was a lifelong novel reader. We can only imagine how many books she read. She loved watching birds, country music, dancing and watching Wheel of Fortune. Her greatest love was for her children and grandchildren.
The family thanks Sanford Hospital in Fargo, Hospice of the Red River Valley and Care-A-Van of Fargo and driver Larry for transporting mom back to Jamestown on Sunday, November 10th so she could spend her final days at home. She was very grateful as she said “It’s good to be home!” when she was brought into the house. Also, a huge thank you to the James River Valley Hospice nurses that kept mom at peace and comfortable so she could rest at home.
Evelyn is survived by her son Gary, daughter in law Julie, daughter Gayle Schmidt and son in law Durwin, son Gregg, son Gavin, daughter in law Rhonda, daughter Gloriann Finck and son in law Rodney, daughter Gina Bowles and son in law Jason, sister Eleanor, brother Walter and sister in law Judy. 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle, son Glen, parents, father in law Carl, mother in law Alyce, brother in law Wallace, sister in law Marlys, sisters Sally, Lois, Unice, brothers Randy, Leno, Norbert, Alvin and great granddaughter Laiah.
