Elizabeth “Betty” Schwehr, 90, Jamestown, ND, died Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Eventide at Hi-Acres, Jamestown .

Elizabeth Mary Gurske was born January 18, 1924 at Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Paul and Anna (Bode) Gurske. When she was 2 years old, she moved with her family to a farm southwest of Courtenay, ND, where she was raised and attended school. Following her schooling she worked for Equity Creamery, where she met George Schwehr. Betty and George were married on September 26, 1944 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Courtenay, ND and they settled on a farm northeast of Spiritwood, ND where they lived until 1974 when they moved to Jamestown, ND. Betty worked for 10 years at Jamestown Hospital and part time at the Anne Carlsen School and Alpha Opportunities. She also worked for 5 years for Dr. D.H. Stickel, DDS and 15 years for Dr. J.M. Ukestad, DDS. After retirement, she volunteered as a Senior Companion.

Betty was a member of the Brimer Homemaker Club, a member of The Basilica of St James, and St James Tabernacle Society.

Betty and George had five children; son, Ron (Rose) Schwehr, Roseau, MN, and their children, Troy, Robert, and Caroline; daughter, Linda Ratay, Newport, MN, and her children, Nichole and Aaron; daughter, Lois Laches, Mott, ND, and her children, Tammy and Linette; son, Don (Melida) Schwehr, Jamestown, ND, and their children, Natalie, Joe, and Deanna; son, Ray (deceased), and his children, David, Carrie, Danny, and Heather; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Rita Eldridge, West St Paul, MN and Dorothy Phillips, Fort Walton Beach, FL.

Her parents, Paul and Anna Gurske, husband, George, son, Ray, and her three brothers preceded her in going into the next life.

Eucharist of Christian Burial – 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 8, 2014 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown, ND

Prayer Service – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND.

Visitation – 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND.

Interment – Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown, ND.
