Elaine Cebula

Elaine A. Cebula, 86, Buchanan, ND, died Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Eventide at Hi-Acres in Jamestown, ND.

Elaine Christ was born October 21, 1924 in Edmunds, ND, the daughter of Leonard and Gena (Rudi) Christ. Elaine graduated from Buchanan High School and attended Business College in Jamestown. Elaine worked as a local telephone operator for one year after graduation, worked in a Defense Plant in California during World War II, and worked at the North Dakota State Hospital. She married Ralph Cebula on October 25, 1947. They resided in Buchanan, where they owned the Buchanan Grocery Store and Buchanan Bar. Elaine served two terms as the State President of VFW, as well as serving as the National Officer of VFW. She was also Chairman of Home for Widows and Orphans during her VFW terms.

Elaine is survived by three daughters, Sherry (Ole) Syverson, Buchanan, ND, Chris (Terri Naze) Cebula, Jamestown and Carrie (Skip) Miller, Jamestown; one son, Scott Cebula, Jamestown; two grandsons, Jason (Katie) Miller, Manassas, VA and John Miller, Pequot Lakes, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son-in-law, Jack Miller; sister, LaVonne DeVall and brother, Leonard Christ.
