Drexel Young Sr.

Drexel Dale "Rex" Young, Sr., 90, Jamestown, ND died Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown.

Rex was born August 18, 1922 in Sheridan, IA, the son of Henry and Emma (Rusco) Young. He attended elementary school and high school in Iowa and Missouri. On October 17, 1942 he and Helen Mae Goodin were married in Elwood, KS. On December 26, 1942 he entered the US Army at Camp McCoy, WI. He served with the 602nd Tank Destroyer Battalion in Europe in five major campaigns. Among those was the Battle of the Bulge, where he was part of General Patton's relief column.

Shortly after his discharge on December 21, 1945, they traveled to southern California where he began his 40 year career in the aerospace industry. After working in California, Missouri and Oklahoma, they moved to Jamestown where he was employed by Western Gear Corporation as Machine Shop Superintendent. His final retirement came in 1986. Since that time to the present, he and his wife of 70 years have lived happily in Jamestown.

Rex is survived by his wife, Helen, Jamestown; one son, Drexel (Sandy) Young, Jr., Jamestown; three grandchildren, Kristi, Cathy and Gregg; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Paul (Lillian) Young, Alberton, MT.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Nancy Engel; parents; and three sisters.
