Dorothy Elaine Lochow

January 23, 1923 — April 16, 2005

Dorothy Lochow, 82, of Jamestown, ND died Saturday, April 16, 2005 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home, Jamestown.

Dorothy Elaine Otto was born January 23, 1923 in Juanita, ND, the daughter of John and Ella (Hurlbert) Otto. She graduated from Dewey High School in 1939 and received her Standard Teaching Degree in 1941 and her Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1979 both from Valley City State Teachers' College.

She married Milton Lochow on June 24, 1945, in Jamestown, ND. They lived on a farm near Courtenay, ND until 1988 when they moved to Jamestown. Dorothy taught school in Corrine Township and Coutenay for many years.

Dorothy was a member of the Courtenay and Jamestown Presbyterian churches where she taught Sunday School and was active in the Ladies Aid Association. She was a member of the ND Retired Teacher's Association, PEO, Past President of the ND Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary, and a long-time 4-H Leader. Dorothy was an exquisite quilter, enjoyed gardening, reading and cross word puzzles.

She is survived by two sons, Michael, Fargo, ND and James (Debbie), Valley City, ND; two daughters, Carol (Russ) Schmeichel and Jan (Ron) Torkelson, both of Jamestown; one sister, Georgia Benson, New Rockford, ND; one brother, Darrell Otto, Fargo; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton, and 4 sisters, Marjorie Pederson, Lois Folts, Verle Samuelson, and Carol Lochow.

Memorial Service: 1:30PM, Saturday, April 23, 2005 at the United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown with Rev. David Thompson officiating.

No Visitation scheduled.

Burial: Courtenay Cemetery, Courtenay, ND.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the United Presbyterian Church or Jamestown College, Jamestown.
