Donald Luverne Gusaas, 81,Fargo, ND, formerly Jamestown, ND, died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Fargo, ND.
Donald Luverne Gusaas was born on November 7, 1928 in Svea township, Barnes County, North Dakota, the son of Johnny and Alma (Salthammer) Gusaas. He served in the US Army during the Korean conflict from 1951 until 1953. Don was stationed in Ft. Lawton, WA. transporting goods to Alaska. Don was united in marriage to Elaine Elizabeth Randa on November 1, 1952 at Sacred Heart Church, Seattle, WA. Don was a brakeman and conductor for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 39 years.
Don was interested in home building and cabinet making. He was well-known for his problem solving of home-improvement dilemmas.
Don enjoyed fast-pitch softball in his early years, was an avid hunter, and fisherman. He had a constant smile and was a jokester.
For many years, Don and Elaine spent winters in Mercedes, TX enjoying billiards, bean bags, square dancing, cards, walking, and spending time with good friends.
He was a member of St. James Basilica, Jamestown, ND.
Don is survived by his wife, Elaine, Fargo, ND; one daughter, Mary (Steve) Kreis, Fruta, CO; three sons, Ronn (Rachael) Gusaas, Brooklyn Park, MN, Daniel Gusaas, Alexandria, MN, and Michael Gusaas, Fargo, ND; nine grandchildren, David Gusaas, Lindsey (Eric) Eckert, Christopher (Diana) Gusaas, April (Tim) Howell, Ben (Jenny) Kreis, Anna, Dalton, Lydia, and Jason; nine great-grandchilren, Taylor, Kyle, Katlyn, Emily, Madeline, Abigail, William, Hadley, and Zoey; one sister, Carol (Doug) Durheim, Sioux Falls, SD; and two brothers, Howard (Francis) Gusaas, Great Falls, MT and Kenneth (Karen) Gusaas, Litchville, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Milford Gusaas; two sisters, Jean Olson and Enid Harstad; and one great-granddaughter, Blessed.
