Richard “Dick” Boyer, 69, of Edgeley, ND, passed away at Sanford Palliative Care, Fargo, on Wednesday evening, October 14, 2015.
Dick was born on June 21, 1946, in Spooner, MN, the son of Roy and Esther (Erickson) Boyer. He grew up in Baudette, Lake of the Woods, MN area until he was eleven, then his family moved to Jackson, MN where he graduated from high school in 1964. Dick enlisted with the US Air Force July 8, 1964. He served as an Air Security Policeman and was honorably discharged on June 11, 1968. Dick married Diane Deal on September 21, 1968 in Pierre, SD. They moved to Milwaukee, WI where he and Diane had two children and he worked for Northwest Airlines. In 1972, they moved to Kulm, ND where Dick was a farm laborer for Elmer Hildebrand for six years. The family moved to Edgeley in 1978 where Dick was employed by Peavey Elevator, and then Farmers’ Union. He managed the Berlin Farmers’ Elevator from 1998 until he retired in 2008. During his retirement he enjoyed helping Butch and Lon Lagodinski with spring and fall work, also haying with Dale and Kevin Strobel.
Dick was an active member of the Edgeley Fire Department, serving as secretary for many years. He also liked to go bowling, and especially loved agriculture.
Dick is survived by his wife of 47 years, Diane Boyer, Edgeley; daughter, Julie Boyer, Fargo, ND; son, Randy (Amy) Boyer, Edgeley; two granddaughters, Macy and Allee Boyer, Edgeley; sister, Kathleen (Steve) Wingad, West Fargo, ND; sister, Mary (James) Raymond, Howard, Lake, MN; brother, Mark (Cindy) Boyer, Ramsey, MN; sister, Sandra (Jerry) VanDeest, Coon Rapids, MN; sister, Eileen( Dan) Shefveland, Red Wing, MN; mother-in-law, Agnes Deal, Pierre, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Robert Deal.
Memorial Service : 1:30 p.m., Monday, October 19, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church, Kulm, ND.
Visitation: None scheduled.
Interment: Mt. Hope Cemetery, Edgeley, at a later date.
