On April 8, 2015, Diane Marie Elhard lost her battle with cancer. In her passing, her family lost a cherished sister, aunt, great-aunt, mother, and granny, and the world lost truly one of its kindest souls. Born in Jamestown on January 11, 1943, Diane was a long-time resident of the Buffalo City and had many family and friends in town. Of all the things in her life, it was those family and friends who were most important to her. She had a special affinity for her great-grandson, Emerson who she fondly nicknamed "Cuddlebutt." Those that knew her would tell you that Diane would do anything for people she loved and would neither ask for nor accept anything in return for her kindness.
Diane was quite competitive and an athlete over the years from her days of basketball in Montpelier, ND where she graduated high school to her days of bowling, softball, pool, and darts in Jamestown with her friends, including Kitty and Bob Bender, and Cammy (Bender) Ost. Diane's career high in bowling was a 287, which is a great feat, but she would tell you that it was more special because some of her friends were there to celebrate with her when she did it.
Diane's favorite place to visit was wherever her sister Vonnie was, and for the last several years it was Brinnon, Washington, especially when Yvonne was cooking and a big family gathering was taking place. Diane did have other memorable trips to Las Vegas and New Orleans to mention a few, and that was always with friends and family.
At home, Diane loved her cats, Snoopy and Mittens, and her dog Poops who has been waiting patiently in heaven for his master. She was a country music fan and had a real liking to game shows on TV. Hopefully you weren't one who made the mistake of trying to gain control of the remote control for her TV, although your punishment was probably only getting a facial expression her family affectionately calls 'the look'. And even so, that look certainly didn't last long and would have ultimately ended up in laughter.
Diane also found pleasure in being outside and in her garden. Diane not only adored flowers but really liked to have vegetables from her garden be included at dinner time. She also had a bunch of statues scattered all over her yard, maybe a bit like some of the casinos Diane liked to visit on occasion as she was known to be fond of slot machines and bingo.
As you can see, Diane loved life. She wouldn't want to have a single person shed a tear for her. She would want her loved ones to not be burdened by any sadness in her passing but rather to be happy for the life she lived and for the memories and the good times shared with family and friends. She wants these next days to be days of celebration of her life.
Among those who are sad she's gone but very happy that Diane is no longer in pain and is at rest with other loved ones are her sister, Yvonne Peterson of Brinnon, WA; grandson Troy Elhard of Coolidge, AZ; grandson Eric Elhard (Erika) of Jamestown; great-grandson Emerson; niece and caregiver Lisa Kainz (Fred) of Jamestown, and a whole bunch of other nieces and nephews of whom Diane was very fond.
Diane will be joining those called to heaven before her, including her daughter LeeAnn Marquez (David); her parents Alvin Wibstad, Agnes Wibstad and Bernard Blaskowski, her brother Dennis Blaskowski (Pat), and her nephew Kylie Heinle.
There will be no formal ceremony in the coming days, but later this summer, there will be a celebration of her life for Diane. The date and time of that celebration will be widely published so that as many people as possible might come to enjoy each other's company and tell of their memories of Diane Elhard.
