David Pfaff met his Lord on October 25 at 10:00 AM at the Wishek Wellness Care Center with his wife at his side. He was born May 7, 1918, to Simon and Katherine (Mittleider) Pfaff of Tappen, ND.
He spent all of his life in Tappen Township. David went to rural school one half mile from where he was born. He worked for several neighbors on their farms. At 9 years of age he was driving the header box for his uncle.
David married Bertha Hust at her parents home on November 18, 1937. They lived on a farm south of Tappen. In November 1944, he bought a quarter of land in Tappen Township. He built all the buildings on the farm and improved the land. Later he acquired four more quarters which he improved and put into grass and alfalfa for his cows and sheep. David later disposed of the sheep but always had cows all of his life. He loved farming and everything that went with it. He always wanted to be the first farmer in the field in the spring, as his land was all sand it usually worked for him.
On November 17, 1975, he married Marcella "Marcy" Stauffacher at the farm. In later years he acquired draft horses-Blonde Belgians. He always loved horses and drove to town with them as the town people seemed to like them too. David drove them in many parades in the local towns. His horses were the last things to go as he could no longer harness them. He also collected horse drawn machinery and repaired it. Especially headers (which the young people have never seen), horse mowers and binders. David also went to many auction sales and bought old H International tractors and repaired them and had them painted. At one time he had 26 of them and then had an auction and sold it all.
He was a devout Christian and he never missed church on Sunday. Years ago church was also on Wednesday night and he never missed it. He was also a lay preacher for many years. David taught adult Sunday school and held many offices in the church and town of Tappen over the years.
In January 2015, he entered the Wishek Wellness Center where he received very good care. His heart and his body gave up and he left this earth for the better life in heaven.
David leaves behind his wife, Marcy of 40 years; daughters, Gloria (Stan) Thorsteinson, Delores (Duane) Veil, Sandy (Lonnie) Freier; one step-daughter, Penny (Van) Coffman; 15 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Elmer Pfaff; one sister, Bertha Roemmich and many nieces and nephews.
