Daniel J Artis

February 15, 1946 — January 16, 2014

Daniel Artis, 67, of Jamestown, ND, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2014 at his home after a short battle with cancer.
Daniel James Artis was born on February 15, 1946, in Valley City, ND, the son of James and Rose (Blumler) Artis. The family farmed south of Sanborn and in Green Township south of Valley City. He graduated from Valley City High School in 1964. Later that fall he enlisted in the Air Force and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Dan was discharged in 1968 and continued his service in the Air National Guard (Happy Hooligans) from 1970 until his retirement in 1994. He married Nicolette Machau on March 2, 1970 in Aberdeen, SD. In 1969 he began working for the US Postal Service in Jamestown and retired in 2007.
Dan loved spending time outdoors and "puttering" in his shop. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He especially treasured the times he spent with his children, grandchildren and friends.
He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Men of Trinity.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Nikki; sons, Matthew (Heidi) Artis and Joshua (Nicole) Artis; grandchildren, Spencer, Chloe, Rylan, Olivia, and Jocelyn, all of Fargo, ND, sisters, Linda (Eugene) Kramer, Mora, MN, Elizabeth (Buck) Trader, Oriska, ND and brothers, Patrick Artis, Vanderwagen, NM and William Artis, Sanborn, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and brother, Harvey "Joe".

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with Rev. Kristi Weber officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday, January 20, 2014 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.
Interment: 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
