Listen to Obituary

On September 22, 2026, Dana Brandenburg, 68, was called home to his eternal rest. His faith in God guided his life, his love for his family knew no bounds, and his kindness touched the lives of all who knew him. He lived his life with a steadfast faith, a generous heart, and a deep love for his family and community.

Dana was born December 3, 1957, in Jamestown, ND. Dana was the son of Don and Marlene (Anderson) Brandenburg. Dana was raised on the family farm north of Edgeley and graduated from Edgeley high school in 1976. He attended Wahpeton SSS with a degree in HVAC. Dana also had an associate degree in accounting. In 1982, Dana married Joni Buckeye. They were married 44 years and raised two beautiful daughters, Lacey and Lindsey. He was a man who loved life—and he lived it in his own unforgettable way. He loved God, believed in working hard, saving for the future, and taking pride in what he could accomplish with his own two hands. He understood the value of a dollar, never wasted what he had, and believed that hard work was something to be respected. He had a special love for fireworks. The bigger the boom and the brighter the sky, the better. Fireworks brought out the kid in him, and he never needed much of an excuse to enjoy them.

After many years of poor health, on June 16, 2025, Dana was the recipient of a gift that changed his life—a new lung. That gift of life will forever be remembered and treasured as it provided Dana with over a year of blessings. But above all else, he loved his grandchildren. They were his greatest joy, his biggest source of pride, and the reason behind so many of his smiles. He treasured every moment with them—their laughter, their stories, their accomplishments, and simply having them near. His grandchildren knew they were deeply loved, and they will carry that love with them for the rest of their lives. His faith in God was an important part of who he was. He believed in the Lord and found strength and purpose in his faith. Though his passing leaves an enormous emptiness for those who loved him, his family finds comfort knowing that he is now at peace and in the presence of his Heavenly Father. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories: lessons about working hard, saving for a rainy day, appreciating what you have, enjoying the simple pleasures, trusting in God, and loving your family fiercely.

Dana is survived by his wife Joni, daughters Lacey Brandenburg, and Lindsey (Dustin) Miles. Grandchildren Kennedy, Nixon, Lincoln, Karter and Monroe. Also many family and friends who will miss him dearly.

Dana was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Marlene Brandenburg and brother-in-law Steve Buckeye.

His legacy will live on in his children, his grandchildren, and all those fortunate enough to have known him. And whenever fireworks light up the night sky, his family will have one more reason to look up, smile, and remember a man who truly loved life. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
