Carroll L. Smith, 90, Jamestown, North Dakota died Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Carroll was born July 25, 1922 in St. John, ND the son of Earl and Agnes (Holum) Smith. He moved to Jamestown in 1940 and worked for Charles and Elfrieda Anderson of the Power Appliance Co. This began a lifetime in refrigeration both in and outside of Jamestown. He entered the US Army on October 5, 1942 at Ft. Snelling, MN and served with the 91st Division at Camp White, OR. He was transferred to Camp Adair with the 70th Division and served in France and Germany. He was honorably discharged November 8, 1945 and returned to North Dakota. He married Gertrude Daugs Hoeckle on June 21, 1982 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown. They lived on the farm and in 2004 they moved into Jamestown. Carroll entered Ave Maria Village in January 2013.

He enjoyed raising pheasants, woodworking, music, bowling, fishing, wildlife, and taking care of trees. He was an avid golfer and traveled to all of the lower 48 states.

Carroll is survived by his wife, Trude, Jamestown; one daughter, Carole Henegan, Missouri; one granddaughter and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; one brother and one sister.
