Berthold Fried, 94, Jamestown, ND died Monday, December 30, 2013 at Eventide at Hi-Acres in Jamestown.
Berthold "Bert" Fried was born June 28, 1919 in Anamoose, ND, the son of Jacob and Christina (Solz) Fried. The family moved to New Rockford in 1921 and then to Windsor in 1925. He attended school in New Rockford and Windsor. On April 1, 1941 Bert entered the US Army and served during World War II in the Battle of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged on October 21, 1945 at Camp McCoy, WI and returned to North Dakota. On December 8, 1945 Bert and Irene Scholz were united in marriage. They lived and farmed in the Windsor area for several years before moving to Jamestown in 1950. He worked for Mellands, Northern Improvement and had his own milk hauling business.
Bert was a lifetime member of the VFW, Disabled Veterans, Cooties, American Legion and the Eagles. He was also a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, western music and watching westerns on television. He was a very caring and loving dad and grandpa.
Bert is survived by his daughter, Marlys Harrison, Apache Junction, AZ; three grandchildren, Lori (Mike) Sebastian, Salem, IN, Tammy (Corey) Longnecker, New Rockford, ND and Tony (Ami) Harrison, Sauk Centre, MN; 7 grandchildren, Joshua, Amanda, Kaitlyn, Brooke, Dani, Seth and Jacob; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; son-in-law, Harvey Harrison; five brothers, Herbert, Gottlieb, Walter, Christ and Samuel and four sisters, Lillian Clemens, Carrie Hoye, Theresa Rogers and Bertha Collis.
