Alvin N. Swanson, 90, Jamestown, ND died Friday, November 29, 2013 at Eventide at Hi-Acres in Jamestown.
Alvin was born December 15, 1922 in Hannaford, ND, the son of Odin and Gilla (Sabby) Swanson. He received his education in Dover township, near Wimbledon, ND. On February 27, 1945 he entered the US Army at Ft. Snelling, MN. He served during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. On November 30, 1946 he was honorably discharged and returned to North Dakota. He farmed north of Wimbledon and also worked at the Wimbledon Elevator. On September 26, 1974 Alvin married Alvina Paasch Arvidson in Hannaford. She passed away on August 3, 1998.
Alvin enjoyed playing pinochle. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church and American Legion, both of Wimbledon.
Alvin is survived by three children, Theresa Swanson, Courtenay, ND, Debra Swanson, Albert Lea, MN and Albert (Mary) Swanson, Wilbur, WA; three stepchildren, Phyllis (Leonard) McMillan, Aurora, IL, Dorothy Arvidson, Grand Forks, ND and Ernest (Carol) Arvidson, Reynolds, ND; many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; son, James; stepson, Fred; stepdaughter, Faye; one great-grandson, Jaeke; two brothers, Clarence & Orin and four sisters, Evelyn, Doris, Edna and Gertrude.
