Alvin Howard Madcke, 89, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2026 at St. Rose Living Center, LaMoure, ND, with his family by his side.
Alvin was born December 11, 1936, at Jud, ND, the son of Julius and Anna (Stickle) Madcke. He attended Jud Public School, and then moved to Edgeley, ND where he worked for Hird & Sons and joined the Edgeley National Guard. While attending a guard school at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO he met his future wife. Al and Norma McIntyre were married November 22, 1958 At United Methodist Church in Caledonia, MO.
They returned to Edgeley until Al entered the US Army on April 27, 1959. He served at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, Ft. Knox, KY, and Germany before being honorably discharged on April 12, 1961. They returned to Edgeley and Al continued with the Edgeley National Guard for many years.
Al attended Moler Barber College in Fargo, ND, and after attaining his Master License, he opened Al’s Barber Shop in Edgeley, retiring in June 1997. He was also a rural mail carrier, retiring January 1, 2001.
Al was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Edgeley and the American Legion Post 146, Edgeley for over 50 years. He served on the Edgeley City Park Board, City Council, Mount Hope Cemetery Board, Edgeley Credit Union Supervisory Committee (now Dakota Plains Credit Union), Edgeley Fire Department and Edgeley Ambulance. Over the years, he enjoyed golf, metal detecting, hunting, working on old clocks, and bowling. For Al, the most special gifts were his grandkids and great grand kids.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Norma; three sons, Michael Madcke, Edgeley, Brian Madcke, Fargo, and Kent (Sheri) Madcke, Edgeley; daughter, Angela (Robert) Ohlin, Madison, AL; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, Jonathon (Erin) Madcke, Britta, Briar, Brycen & Brooke, Lucas (Alexis) Madcke, Reese, Sorlie, Collins, Rye & Max Alvin, Mason (Ashlind) Madcke, Alyssa, Gracelynn, Colt, Dilan Madcke, Jocelynn (Wyatt Henningsen) Madcke, Gunner Madcke, Dalton Madcke, and Colton Madcke; sister, Linda (Ambrose) Dunn, Edgeley; and many niece and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother & sister-in-law, Garth and Betty Madcke; and his mother & father-in-law.
Memorial Service – 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Wesley United Methodist Church, Edgeley, with Pastor Becca Hafner officiating, and lunch to follow in the church fellowship hall.
