Alton Wagar

Alton ?Al? Walter Wagar was born on January 18th, 1944 to Jennie (Myers) Wagar and Cecil H. Wagar in Rugby, ND. He was raised on a farm near Bantry, ND and was the youngest of 7. He attended a country school near the farm and then attended Towner School and graduated in 1962.

He was married to Della Smette on July 15, 1963 in Bloomfeld (now New Hope) Lutheran Church.

Following their marriage they lived in Rugby, Minot and Sherwood before moving to Fargo where he attended Kundert Aviation Mechanic School. He was employed as an Air Craft Mechanic in Billings MT, Aberdeen SD, and Dickinson ND, before moving to Hazen ND in 1983 where he worked as a Custodian at the Hazen Public School until his stroke in 1988. Finally moving to Jamestown ND in 2010 to be closer to family.

He had a lifelong love of hunting which he enjoyed with his sons & grandchildren. His hobbies included a love of reading and playing cards.

Al passed away on Monday May 19th at Jamestown Regional Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife Della. His four sons Scott of Hazen ND, James (Carrie) and their children Amanda Marie & Kalyn James of Casselton ND, Russ (Sharon) and daughter Aubrey Nicole of Fargo ND and Mark and daughter Haley Jo of West Fargo ND. Sisters-in-law Jean Wagar of Fridley MN and Edith Wagar of Rural Bantry. Brothers-in-law Bob Ostrom of Brooklyn Park MN and David (Claudette) Smette of Jamestown ND and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Also survived by his four legged friend Skipper.

He was preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Jennie Wagar, Sisters: Delrus Herbst & Patricia Ostrom. Brothers: Harvey & Bill Wagar and two infant brothers.

The funeral will be at New Hope Lutheran Church in Upham ND, May 24, 2014 at 11am.
