Agatha Schaffer was born in 1934 to Baltzer B and Katherine (Wangler) Weigel in Napoleon, ND.
She passed away peacefully with Family by her side on June 23, 2025 at Essentia Health Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, MN at the age of 91.
As a young girl she lived the farm life with her 6 siblings and learned to speak English when she went to first grade.
Agatha met her life partner Herman Schaffer at a dance in Napoleon and were married in 1954. Together they made their home in Edgeley, ND for 44 years.
They were blessed with 4 children, Ronald, Susan, Lynette and Dean.
Agatha worked at the Manor St Joseph as a cook for 45 years and loved every minute of it. After she retired at the age of 83, she always wondered what the residents were eating. She loved to garden, cook, play pinochle, canning her famous pickles, dance to polka music with Herman every chance they got she enjoyed trips to Mexico and Germany. She was happiest cooking for her Family and having them all around her. She loved to be around her grandchildren and attend their events.
Agatha moved to Primrose Assisted Living in Bismarck in 2020 right next door to her sister Carolyn. You would never see one without the other.
In 2022, she moved to Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, MN. We would like to thank all the staff at Oak Crossing for the exceptional care she received, especially Sina Sarabahksh for the kind, caring, compassion for Agatha until the end of her life.
Agatha is survived by her children, Ronald, Susan (Kile) Jackson, Lynette (Colin) Gedrose, and Dean. Grandchildren, Makenzie (Christian) Miller, Hanna (Austen) Schultz, and Austin Gedrose. Great Grandchildren, Brooks and Reese Miller. 5 step Grandchildren and 12 step Great Grandchildren. Siblings Medy Gross and Ben Weigel. Sisters-In-Law- Irene Ohnstad, Bertha Wolff, Carol (Wally) Berg, Helen (Allan) Lambrecht, Brothers-In-Law-Bernie (Pat) Schaffer, Vic (Mary)Schaffer, Clarence Wanner as well as many nieces and nephews.
Agatha is preceded in death by her parents, husband Herman, daughter-in-law, Yvonne Schaffer, sisters, Agnes (Andy) Gross, Helen (Baltzer) Wald, Carolyn (Alvin)Gross, Mary Ann Weigel Wanner, Clarence (Lavon) Schaffer, Ray Schaffer, Bill (Gloria) Schaffer, Nieces-Mary Goetz, Yvonne Ohnstad, Nephews-Bobby Weigel, Darren Gross, Daughter-In-Law, Yvonne Schaffer, Grand Nephew Brandon Krehlik.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2pm on June 26th, 2025 at Transfiguration Catholic Church in Edgeley, ND. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to mass at the church. Interment: Mount Calvary Cemetery in Edgeley.
