Adeline Dockter, 93, Jamestown, North Dakota died Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Eventide at Hi-Acres in Jamestown.
Adeline Evelyn Johnson was born on a farm near Spiritwood, ND, on April 9, 1918, the daughter of Elvin and Ida (Bartholomew) Johnson. She attended Spiritwood schools and helped her parents on the family farm. She later moved to Jamestown and worked as a housekeeper for several families. On July 25, 1942 Adeline married Reuben Dockter in Macon, GA. They returned to Jamestown and she drove taxi and city bus. She was the first female bus driver in Jamestown. She also worked as a clerk at various stores. In 1960 she completed beautician school. Adeline and Reuben purchased Little Jim's Café in Jamestown in 1968. Reuben died in 1975.
Adeline was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jamestown, a life member of the VFW Auxiliary and was a Moose Club Regent. She also sang with the Jay Notes, along with her sister, Isabel. She represented Weight Watchers, was a Senior Companion, was involved with Alanon, and sold Avon for a time.
Adeline enjoyed bowling, golf, bingo, country music and traveling. She enjoyed life and those around her, but her greatest love was her husband, children and grandchildren.
Adeline is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Darlene Dockter, Jamestown; two grandchildren, Michael Vick, Fargo, ND and Robin Kale, Apple Valley, MN; six great-grandchildren; one step-granddaughter, Lauri Sorenson, Minot, ND; three step-great grandchildren, all from Minot; one sister, Isabel Christensen, Jamestown; numerous nieces and nephews, and one special niece, Jan Brandt, Jamestown, who was like a daughter to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one son, Carl Johnson; a daughter in infancy, Ida Louise; two sisters, Marion Netz and Viola Hobert; one brother, Roy Johnson; and one granddaughter, Polly Ann.
