Paul Koenig

December 13, 1925 — August 31, 2006

The angels came and took our dad to be with our mother.

Paul Koenig, 80, Woodworth, North Dakota, passed away August 31, 2006 at The Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, North Dakota, with his family at his side.

Paul was born December 13, 1925 north of Woodworth, the son of William and Augusta (Haupt) Koenig. He grew up in the Woodworth area and married Eileen Hust on May 12, 1944 in Woodworth. They lived on a farm northeast of Woodworth planting small grains and raising beef cattle. He was also a commercial cattle trucker for 18 years. He worked at the Jamestown Livestock Sales barn for 20 years, which he enjoyed as he got to see many friends and neighbors there. They moved into Woodworth in 1973 and semi-retired. Their son, Jerome, took over the family farm. Paul and Eileen celebrated 60 years of marriage. Eileen died on February 26, 2005. Paul lived in the Woodworth area all his life.

Paul was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Woodworth, Eagles Club, Elks Club, served on the Wadsworth Township board, church board, Dakota Central Telephone board, a director on the Woodworth Elevator board, Woodworth town board and the Community Betterment committee. He greatly enjoyed traveling with Dakota Central Telephone Company when he served on the board.

He enjoyed farming, horse and cattle auctions, hunting, fishing, playing cards and coffee time with neighbors, friends and relatives. Paul lived for the farm and his family. He loved to be in the midst of a family gathering, always ready for a grand time with friends. He still enjoyed driving to the farm and to the fields, especially at harvest time. He had a love for children and enjoyed each new grandchild and great-grandchild as they came into his life. He loved going to rodeos to watch his grandson, Brandon, ride bulls and he always had a big smile on his face when he and his great-grandson, Trayton, went for wheelchair rides. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and he will be greatly missed by all of us.

Paul is survived by his son, Jerome (Gladys) Koenig, Woodworth; three daughters: Sandra (James) Morlock, Pettibone, Dorothy (Arthur) Mariner, Mandan, ND and Kathy (Scott) Hochhalter, Bismarck, ND; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen, parents, four brothers, Fred, Bill, Carl and Otto and two sisters, Elizabeth Peda and Emma Fish.
