Norman Knutson, 72, Jamestown, ND died Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.
Norman Knutson was born April 19, 1941 in Jamestown, the son of Oscar and Elnor (Larson) Knutson. Norman grew up in Pingree, ND and made his home on the family farm one mile south of Pingree. Norman was baptized and confirmed at Pingree Lutheran Church, attended Pingree Public School, Lees District #10 and graduated as a Wildcat in 1957. Norman graduated from Concordia College, Moorhead, MN in 1963 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree; and often he was on the Dean's List. Norman was in the National Guard Unit 141 Motor Pool out of Jamestown, and was given an honorable discharge.
Norman enjoyed reading. He was an artist who dabbled in sketching, soap/wood carvings and writing poetry. Norman loved animals and truly enjoyed caring for them. Norman took part in Trinity Lutheran Church with his father, Oscar (and Ann) on Sunday and enjoyed fellowship. Norman enjoyed farming, and he loved working the soil, harvest and the daily routine of farm life.
Growing up Norman was active in Pony League baseball and 7-12 grade basketball. Many family trips were enjoyed across the United States east and west, stopping at relatives along the way. One trip to New York and Washington, D.C. was 6 weeks long. Another wonderful adventure was to Costa Rica to visit an uncle and aunt who was in the Diplomatic Service.
Norman grew up in a Christian home where church attendance and gatherings were an important part of his life; which included Parish Day, Sunday school, Bible school, Bible study and Lenten services. The Pingree community was very welcoming and provided a nonjudgmental atmosphere for Norman's daily activities, which included coffee at the café. Norman will be remembered most for his helpful nature and gentle spirit.
He moved to Rock of Ages assisted living facility, October 2006, where he was welcomed to a caring family atmosphere.
Norman moved to Ave Maria Village in February, 2013.
Norman is survived by brother, Gerald Knutson, Fargo, ND; sister, Phyllis (Delno) Kleinknecht, Pingree; sister-in-law, Barbara Knutson, Jamestown; nephews, Eric Knutson, Chad (Darlene) Kleinknecht, Shawn Knutson, Dana Knutson, Justin Knutson, Ryan Knutson; nieces, Karla (Bruce) Emery, Becky (Jim) Cutler, Kimberly (Cory) Evenson and several great nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Lonty Knutson.
