Mary Ellen Brown, 81, of Jamestown, passed away May 13, 2014 at St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure ND. Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 17 at United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown. Burial will be at the ND Veterans Cemetary at a later date.
Mary Ellen Klose was born January 21, 1933 to Reinhold and Eleanor (Pendray) Klose in Stutsman County. She graduated from Jamestown High School.
On January 2, 1952 she married Vern Brown, Jr. at Wimbledon ND. Vern was drafted in the Army and left for service January 9, 1952. Upon his return in 1953, they made their home in Jamestown until moving to Courtenay. Mary operated the Courtenay Cafe for a time while raising her family. In 1966 they returned to Jamestown where Mary was a cook for several restaurants including Big Jim's, Wagon Masters, The Depot and Jamestown College. She was known for her good cooking, baking, and work ethic.
She enjoyed vegetable gardening. For much of her life she crocheted and knitted many items including doilies, afghans and Barbie doll clothes. One of Mary's afghans provided her with warmth and comfort for months up to the moment of her death.
She entered St. Rose Care Center in LaMoure December, 2009. The very caring staff at St. Rose provided exceptional care and comfort to Mary as her health declined and extended this caring nature to the entire family.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Vern, Jamestown; her daughter, Sharon (Gerard) Senne, Bismarck and son, Chris (Tammey) Brown, Fargo. Her grandchildren; Ryan Brown, Fargo; Skyler Brown, Wahpeton; Amanda Brown, Jamestown; Amy Brown, Mandan; David Brown, Cleveland; and Angie Brown, Medina. One sister, Lorraine Gallagher, Kirkland WA.
She is predeceased by her parents; one son, Michael; and three brothers; Donald Klose, Jerome Klose and Conrad Klose.
