Arnold G. Schafer, 76, of Jamestown, ND passed away on Monday, June 4, 2018 at his home in Jamestown, surrounded by his family.
Arnold Schafer was born on May 26, 1942 in Flasher, ND, the son of Jerome and Minnie (Roll) Schafer. He graduated from Flasher High School. Arnie married Marilyn Erickson in April, 1964. To that union were born four children: Kyle (Jodie) Schafer, Crookston, MN, Kimberly (Stuart) Romsdal, Casselton, ND, Shawna (Curt) Wollbrink, Rochester, MN, and Ryan (Rachel) Schafer, Jamestown, ND.
Arnie and Marilyn made their home in Bismarck while working for the Singer Co. Arnie was transferred to the Singer Store in Jamestown in 1966. In 1968, he started the A&J Sewing Center in Jamestown, which he and Marilyn owned and operated until 1973. In 1974, Arnie began working for B. Reuben Jewelry Co. traveling several states. In 1980, Arnie went to work for Agsco Inc. selling farm chemicals and seed treatments. He loved working with the farmers. In 1982 Arnie and Marilyn bought the Lakeside Marina and managed that until 1993 when they closed the marina because of flooding.
Arnie loved spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed golfing, boating, traveling, hunting, camping, playing cards, and cooking/grilling. He was a very good cook and enjoyed cooking for other people. He enjoyed working in the various jobs that he held and was always quick with remarks to make life fun. Arnie loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones.
Arnie is survived by his wife, Marilyn, sons, Kyle (Jodie), Ryan (Rachel), daughters, Kimberly (Stuart) Romsdal, and Shawna (Curt) Wollbrink, eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren, sisters, Phyllis Smith of Bismarck, Deloris (Jim) Cain of Colorado Springs, Shirley (Kenneth) Reed of Mandan, brothers, Lawrence (Sharon) Savanna III, Ben (Linda) Wilton, ND, DuWayne (Gladeen) of West Fargo, and Gordon of Bismarck, sister-in-law, Shirley Schafer of Bismarck, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Minnie Schafer, brothers, Daniel, Leo, Matt, Herman, and Leonard.
The family would like to extend their thanks and warmest appreciation to the JRMC Home Health and Hospice. They would also appreciate if memorials were made out in memory of Arnie to the Home Health and Hospice of JRMC.
Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 8, 2018 at the St. James Basilica, Jamestown, with Monsignor Jeffrey Wald officiating.
Visitation: 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Eddy Funeral Home.
Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery
