Obituaries

Evelyn Oberlander, 85, Jamestown, North Dakota, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown.
Evelyn Kurtz was born on July 8, 1924 in Spiritwood, ND, the daughter of Edward and Louise (Lanska) Kurtz.  She grew up on a farm, and received her education in Winfield Township near Ypsilanti, ND.  On October 26, 1952, Evelyn married Eugene Oberlander in Jamestown, where they made their home until 1965, then moved to Ypsilanti.  She resided there until her husbands death in 1987, then moved back to Jamestown.  In 1995, she made her new home at Ave Maria Village, where she made many new friends, and was loved by many of their staff.
She enjoyed playing bingo, watching TV, and giving all the staff grief when they would walk past her room.  She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown.
Evelyn is survived by two sons, Steven (Sarah) Oberlander and Douglas (Millicent Holgerson) Oberlander, both of Jamestown; one daughter-in-law, Kate Ileen Allen, Prescott Valley, AZ; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister-in-law, Beverly Kurtz, Jamestown; three special children, and all who loved her at Ave Maria.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Tim; her parents; four sisters; and three brothers.  She will be greatly missed.
