Verjane "Gene" Delane Henke, 72, of Jamestown, North Dakota, died Friday, February 5, 2010 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota after a two-year battle with cancer.
Gene was born March 13, 1937 in Ashley, North Dakota, the son of Fred and Hanna (Schneider).  He grew up on the family farm and attended a country school.  He later met Serena Kauk and the two were married in Jamestown at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on September 26, 1964. 
Gene tried his hand at selling insurance at a young age.  He then became an ironworker and was also a successful realtor.  Later in life he became a landlord, owning many rental units until the time of his death.
Gene enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, playing cards and computer.  His favorite times were spent with his grandchildren.
Gene is survived by his wife Serena, Jamestown; his son, Kevin (Lynn), Bismarck, ND; his daughter Roxann (fiance, Monti Miller) Henke, Wahpeton, ND; two grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Rhonda Renee.
