Gerald "Jerry" Huber Obituary

Jerry (Gerald) Charles Huber, 76, of Jamestown ND, passed peacefully into eternity on January 4, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with lung cancer.  A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Temple Baptist Church, Jamestown, ND.  Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM with a prayer/celebration service at 6:00 PM on Friday, January 12, 2024 Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, ND.  Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND in the Spring.

Jerry was born November 2, 1947, to Carl and Ruth (Heinle) Huber at Jacobsen Memorial Hospital in Elgin, ND.  He attended a one room rural schoolhouse through sixth grade and graduated from Carson High School in 1965. He was a true German as he only spoke German through the first grade.  He graduated from Dickinson State College in 1969 with degrees in Biology and Chemistry.

On June 4, 1970, he married Donnel Pahl.  Together they had two children, son Jason and daughter Rebecca.  After being married for six weeks, Jerry was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in South Vietnam at fire base “Pace” as a Field Artillery Fire Direction Controller.  While serving in Vietnam, he was repeatedly exposed to agent orange which contributed to multiple health problems later in life.

Following his military service, he taught high school Biology and Chemistry in Valentine, Nebraska.  Eventually returning to school in Omaha, Nebraska, he pursued a career in health care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.  He worked in this career until his retirement in 2012.

Jerry genuinely loved God and loved life.  His zest, resilience, and humor were contagious and made him a truly magnetic person, always wanting to be where the “action” was.  He enjoyed being outdoors.  You could usually find Jerry outside mowing the lawn, blowing the snow, or spending time with friends.  Having a large affection for sweets, he would never turn down the opportunity to enjoy a donut.

He also loved spending time with his “A, B, C” grandsons – Alex, Ben, and Carter.  Hunting, fishing, watching basketball, baseball, and riding along in the golf cart, were among his most cherished memories.  Jerry considered his three grandsons his greatest accomplishment.

Jerry and Donnel enjoyed the warm weather – traveling and sightseeing.  Many memories were made spending time together with family.   Broderick (Brody) Huber, Jerry’s first great-grandchild had a special place in his heart.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and brother.  He is survived by his wife Donnel Huber, children Jason (Maira) Huber, Rebecca (Jason) Wells, grandsons Ben (Emily) Huber, Alex (Jenna) Huber, Carter Wells, and great-grandson Broderick Huber.

Any donations received will be donated to Hospice of the Red River Valley and Roger Maris Cancer Center in honor of Jerry.

Jerry's funeral service will be live streamed on his page at eddyfuneralhome.com
